The character Sonic the Hedgehog was introduced in the world of video games in 1991 by Sega Corporation and has become one of the most popular video game characters. This series was sold in 50 million copies, which was a record in the history of video games. The character possessed some attractive features like cool blue appearance with lighting fast speed of running (faster than sound which turned the name Sony to Sonic) and ability to create a furry blue saw during fighting with devils. These special super powers coupled with attractive appearance of the logo and the game speed made the success story.

From the time of origin Sega has introduced a number of Sonic the Hedgehog series in the market till now namely: Sonic the Hedgehog (1991 the first series), Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992), Sonic the Hedgehog CD (1993), Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (1994), Sonic Labyrinth (1995), Sonic 3D blast (1996), Sonic R (1997), Sonic Adventure (1998), Sonic Pocket Adventure (1999), Sonic Shuffle (2000), Sonic Adventure 2 (2001), Sonic Advance 2 (2002), Sonic Battle (2003), Sonic Heroes (2004), Sonic Rush (2005), Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), Sonic and the Secret Rings (2007), Sonic Unleashed (2008) and finally Sonic and the Black Night (2009). Each series achieved lot of success over the time.
In the first series Sony was introduced as a poor hedgehog. He was found by Dr. Kintobor.

During an experiment of Dr. Kintobor, Sony overloaded a tread mill and an explosion occurred which transform the gray colored hedgehog into a blue colored one with some special powers like running faster than sound (hence the name Sonic evolved) and creating furry blue colored saw to fight the enemies. The objective was to collect the Chaos Emeralds scattered across the world due to the explosion and also the golden rings generated from the explosion.

In the second and the third series Sonic got some special friends like Mills which is two tailed fox, Amy Rose who later on becomes the girl friend of Sonic and Metal Sonic that helped Sonic to travel through time for his missions.

Sonic had to face deadly attack from a powerful foe called Chaos controlled by Dr. Robotnik (also known as Dr. Eggman) during mission to the city of Station Square. In Sonic the Adventure 2 series Sonic the Hedgehog faced an enemy Shadow the Hedgehog that mimic Sonic and made the military to fire on Sonic by mistake. Two new characters were introduced namely Tails and Knuckles in Sonic Heroes series to help Sonic in his missions against the rebuilt Metal Sonic. Sonic had to rescue Princess Elise from Dr. Eggman in Soleanna the city of water in Sonic the Hedgehog series (2006). In due course of time Sonic had to avoid some extra problems like threats to his own life designated as Silver the Hedgehog in and Sonic the Werehog in the Sonic Unleashed series.

All these supporting characters and events were introduced in such way that they should appear in much more realistic patterns rather than dramatic. Every series starting from the very first one has become the most popular among all other games. The Sega is still holding the top rank of the video game market with the revolutionary creation of Sonic the Hedgehog series.
